Netflix has confirmed new setting and first plot details for the hit crime dramaUntamed official Netflix teaser

The new location and storyline of the second season of what some feel is Netflix’s ‘best detective series in years’ has been confirmed.

Starring Eric Bana, the six-part series Untamed landed on the streamer last year and caused quite a stir. It quickly became one of the most watched shows on the platform among subscribers and while it was billed as a limited series originally, a follow up instalment is on the way.

Its first season saw Bana take on the role of federal agent Kyle Turner, who patrols the National Parks Service’s sprawling wilderness to uphold human law. The grim discovery of a young woman’s body launches Turner into a harrowing journey that intertwines with the park’s hidden evils and his own troubled history.

He’s backed by his former mentor and is also paired with a fresh face from the city police force in Los Angeles. His task is to school the newcomer on the perils of the untamed while they dig up truths camouflaged amidst Yosemite’s breathtaking vistas.

Netflix have not only confirmed that season 2 has entered production but they have shared the first plot details. Along with this, we now know where Bana’s character has ended up after he was seen leaving his past behind in the season one finale.

The company has confirmed via their Tudum website, that Agent Turner will take on a new case in Hawaii. The report on the website states: “In its second season, Untamed follows special agent Kyle Turner as he’s called to investigate a mysterious death in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, where local tensions and the volatile, living landscape become an unpredictable force.”

Co-creators and executive producers Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, who also penned American Primeval for the streamer, added: “We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite.

“Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what’s so fascinating [about] getting to choose a new park.”

Fans will be interested to know that while parts of Canada stood in for the US National Park last time out, the second season is expected to film entirely on location in Hawaii.

Interestingly the creators also say this is not the first park Kyle has visited since leaving Yosemite while detailing when the story picks up. Mark said: “This won’t be the first park he’s been in. It’s been a year and a half after leaving Yosemite. He’s been to a lot of parks. He’s been busy. He’s been taking on a lot of cases.”

While Elle continued: “Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive. We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character, and it will play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.”

Untamed boasts a more than respectable 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes. One fan claimed: “The best detective series since the first True Detective. Could not stop watching from the first minute of the series.”

Another added: “Untamed is amazing. Eric Bana is incredible—quiet, intense, and completely believable as a man dealing with insurmountable grief while trying to solve a mystery in Yosemite. The show looks stunning; the park feels like its own character with breathtaking shots of cliffs, forests, and rivers.”

A third posted: “Loved this show, it’s a real tear jerker but also kept me on the edge of my seat. This is one of the very best shows Netflix has put out. Great story telling, great actors and beautiful scenery.”

Someone else advised: “If you like Dept. Q and Yellowstone, don’t sleep on Netflix’s wild murder mystery Untamed”. Meanwhile another chimed in: “I binged watched Untamed. It was beyond what I thought it would be.

“The cast, setting, suspense, storyline, back stories, and the emotional roller coaster the viewer is put through made getting up at 3am when Netflix made it available worth it.”
