Public backing for the British monarchy has slipped to 45 per cent as the Epstein scandal continues to engulf the royal family, fresh polling data reveals.

The survey, conducted by Savanta on behalf of the anti-monarchy organisation Republic, shows a three-point decline from 48 per cent over the past four months.

While support for replacing the monarchy with an elected head of state held steady at 32 per cent, the proportion of respondents expressing uncertainty grew from 20 to 24 per cent since October.

More than 2,100 adults participated in the research, which took place over the weekend.

The findings come as three million documents released by the US Department of Justice have brought new allegations concerning Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to light.

Buckingham Palace responded on Monday by stating that the King had conveyed his “profound concern” regarding the allegations surrounding his brother’s behaviour.

The Palace added it would “stand ready to support” police authorities should they seek assistance with the fresh claims.

Thames Valley Police confirmed officers are currently evaluating suggestions that the King’s sibling passed on confidential briefings from his former position as Britain’s trade envoy to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Among the newly surfaced allegations are claims that Epstein dispatched a second woman to Britain for a sexual encounter with Andrew.

Further documents suggest the former prince and Epstein propositioned an exotic dancer for a threesome at Epstein’s residence in Florida.

Andrew has consistently maintained he committed no wrongdoing.

The Prince and Princess of Wales broke their silence on the scandal on Monday, with Kensington Palace stating they were “deeply concerned” at the “continued revelations” and that their thoughts “remain focused on the victims”.

It marked the first occasion the couple had publicly commented on the matter.

The King himself faced a hostile reception during a visit to Lancashire earlier in the day.

A man heckled the monarch upon his arrival at Clitheroe train station, shouting “How long have you known about Andrew?”

The Savanta research was conducted before the Palace issued its statement on Monday.

The previous polling by the same firm took place shortly after Andrew relinquished public use of his royal titles and honours in October 2025, and prior to the King stripping him of his princely status and dukedom.

Graham Smith, Republic’s chief executive who filed the police report concerning the trade envoy allegations, said: “The monarchy is losing its one claim to legitimacy, opinion poll ratings.”

He added: “The trend across most polling is declining support, and this poll shows how low that support has gone. Falling support is unsurprising given the gravity of accusations against Andrew.”

Mr Smith called for a “serious and honest debate” about Britain’s future without a monarchy, arguing the institution cannot reverse its declining fortunes.

“The late queen was the one person keeping this creaking institution going. Even her legacy is now being tainted by the Andrew scandal,” he said.

Virginia Giuffre, who took her own life last year, had alleged Epstein trafficked her and that she was forced into sexual encounters with Andrew on three occasions, including when she was 17. Andrew has always vehemently denied the claims, though he paid millions to settle a civil case with her in 2022.
