Matt Damon made a rare red carpet appearance with his wife of over 20 years, Luciana, on February 10.
The couple—who are parents to four daughters—attended the Los Angeles premiere of the new film Crime 101.
At one point, Matt’s best friend Ben Affleck stopped by, and the three posed for photos on the red carpet together.
Matt Damon and his wife of 20 years, Luciana, made a rare red carpet appearance on February 10 at the Los Angeles premiere of Crime 101—and at one point were joined by Damon’s longtime friend Ben Affleck.
Luciana wore a strapless black dress with a slit in the back, black heels, and chandelier earrings, while Matt wore a gray suit for the occasion. Luciana debuted a brand new bob with side bangs just weeks after rocking ultra long hair at another red carpet appearance.
At one point, she posed in between Affleck and her husband, roughly one month after Matt’s comments on The Howard Stern Show where Matt explained how, before they met, Luciana thought Affleck was “the cute one” after watching the 1997 film Good Will Hunting (in which both men star). Matt then jokingly added that after she met Affleck, “all that went away,” referring to her crush.

Matt and Luciana met in Miami, Florida in 2003, when Luciana was bartending and six years after Matt shot to fame in Good Will Hunting. They married two years later in 2005, and they share four daughters. The Damon family made a rare red carpet appearance at the premiere of Matt’s latest film, The Rip, in January.
Though Luciana sometimes serves as an executive producer (like on The Rip, for example), she’s largely out of the Hollywood limelight and prefers to live a private life. She stays away from social media and told Vogue Australia in 2018 that she’s never seen her husband as a movie star.

“When you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that’s just the person that you have a connection with,” she said. “All the other stuff—the movie star part—wasn’t really a factor. It was just Matt. To me, he’s just Matt.”
Though Matt is an award-winning, bankable actor, he’s never been into the fame aspect of his job. “I got lucky,” he previously told Esquire. “I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress, and not a famous actress, at that. Because then the attention doesn’t double—it grows exponentially.”

Of the paparazzi, he added that they “can try to stake me out, but they’re always going to get the same story—middle-aged married guy with four kids.”
Speaking on the “Radio Times Podcast” in 2024—the same year Affleck and Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce—Matt said that he “can’t imagine” dealing with the scrutiny Affleck faces.
“I’m fortunate to have been kind of excused from that part of it,” Matt added of overwhelming fame, which he called a “bizarre, disorienting feeling.”
“I just wanted to get to work and so I kind of hid for a few years while I got my bearings,” Matt continued. “Luckily I fell in love with someone who was not in the business who would tolerate that side of it, and that really helped me.”
Matt and Luciana have a rule in their marriage that they don’t spend more than two weeks apart, he said in an October 2021 interview. “I think you need to be with the person you love as much as possible,” Matt said. “My wife is my soulmate. I don’t like being apart from her.”

In the aforementioned Howard Stern interview alongside Affleck last month, Matt said of the night he met Luciana, “I couldn’t remember who I was with, ‘cause all I remembered was her.” To this, Affleck playfully added, “He knows why he’s a good husband, because he’s like, ‘All I can see was her,’ and I’m like, ‘But also, you were hammered, and it’s a little vague.’ But he’s smart enough not to say that.”
Getting serious for a moment, Affleck added, “It’s a really gorgeous marriage and friendship and two people who, when they’re apart and independent of one another, are one another’s partner.”
