Prince William is not going easy on any controversy that threatens the royal family, and has reportedly distanced himself from his “despicable” uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The former Duke of York has garnered renewed scrutiny following the newly released Epstein files, leaving the Prince of Wales and his wife Kate Middleton “deeply concerned.”
It comes amid reports that ex-Prince Andrew’s acts have left the monarchy vulnerable and fueled public mistrust, with a source labeling it Prince William’s “worst nightmare.”

According to experts, the royal family once had a habit of not directly addressing scandals, as hardly would a key figure within the monarchy weigh in, seemingly following the “never complain, never explain” mantra to the letter.
Not anymore, as reports suggest Prince William sees silence as suicide and has publicly distanced himself from his disgraced Uncle Andrew, following the recent release of new Epstein files, which have painted the former prince in a worse light.
“Prince William, with the major influence of Princess Catherine, is modernizing the monarchy by clarifying their position, which is with the victims,” royal expert Hillary Fordwich told Fox News Digital. “This demonstrates William’s moral authority. We can expect that he will not do anything to defend his despicable uncle.”
“Despite issuing a statement supporting victims before departing for Saudi Arabia, Prince William was still heckled,” Fordwich said, adding that the future king is the “hardliner on reputational risk,” and views “silence as both damning and dangerous for the monarchy.”
“Notably, the statement he and Princess Catherine released was brief, direct, and avoided any mention of his despicable uncle’s name,” she added.

William has maintained a no-nonsense approach to issues that have threatened the stability of the monarchy, with Andrew’s ties to the late pedophile being the latest of such instances.
He has remained estranged from his younger brother, Prince Harry, over disturbing allegations he made against the royal family after he and his wife, Meghan Markle, resigned from their working royal roles in 2020.
A spokesperson for William and Kate shared earlier this week that the Prince and Princess of Wales are “deeply concerned” by recent revelations in the newly released Epstein files, among which is the fact that Andrew maintained contact with Epstein despite claiming he’d cut him off in 2010.
“I can confirm the Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations, and their thoughts remain focused on the victims,” the spokesperson added.

William is said to have the full support of his wife Kate, with reports claiming she has been “a strong moral force” by his side.
Her non-royal background is said to give her “a clear outsider’s perspective,” as they’ve remained “aligned” with the public disgust surrounding Andrew’s ties to Epstein.
However, British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard revealed that William is now grappling with his “worst nightmare” as the controversy surrounding his uncle has fueled public mistrust in the monarchy, with many speculating there must have been a high-level cover-up of some sort.
“If it were up to Prince William, he would have dealt with the Andrew fallout a long time ago,” Chard said. “He is furious with the negative impact on the royal family’s standing due to his uncle Andrew’s despicable behavior. He has no allegiance to his uncle.”

There appears to be only a handful of decisions William and Kate can make concerning the current situation, despite being the next in line to the throne.
The couple has been a loyal and supportive force to King Charles’ reign, with William particularly stepping up when his father and wife battled ailing health that sidelined them from royal duties for months.
However, as it relates to his father’s brother, William must still wait for His Majesty’s final word.
“Constitutionally and hierarchically, William and Catherine cannot take direct action against Andrew,” Schofield said. “What they can do, and are now clearly doing, is establish a firm distance and make it unmistakable that he no longer represents the values or future of the monarchy.”
King Charles Has Also Distanced Himself From His Brother

Just like William, Charles has taken a hard stand against his scandal-plagued brother, having stripped him of his royal titles and honors in October, as well as evicting him from his 30-room royal lodge residence.
“The king indicated that he would cooperate with law enforcement, if necessary,” Schofield noted. “That escalation suggests the shift is being driven from the top, not solely by the next generation.”
More recently, a spokesperson for the monarch revealed that he has made clear his “profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect” of Andrew’s conduct.
They further noted, “While the specific claims in question are for Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police, we stand ready to support them as you would expect.”
