Directed by Joachim Trier (who also co-wrote the movie with Eskil Vogt), Sentimental Value stands at an impressive near-perfect 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 231 reviews, with FilmWeek hailing it as the “best movie of the year” when it was released in November 2025.
It follows sisters Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Lilleaas) who reunite with their estranged father Gustav (Skarsgård), who was once a renowned director, as he’s planning a major comeback with a script based on his family.
Gustav offers Nora the lead role, but she declines, so he brings in a young Hollywood star (Elle Fanning) to make the movie, which ends up with the three of them forced to confront their difficult pasts.
Sentimental Value is now available to watch on Mubi in the UK.
