Small film Couple Friendly has opened on a strong note at the box office, reportedly collecting 1.89 crore worldwide on its first day. For a small budget film released during a relatively dull phase, this is considered an impressive start.

The film stars Santosh Shoban, who has been waiting for a solid commercial success despite consistently delivering sincere performances. Being the son of late director Sobhan, many in the industry have openly supported him and hoped for his success. With Couple Friendly receiving positive talk from the first show, that long awaited moment finally seems to have arrived.

Former Miss India Manasa Varanasi has also won appreciation for her role. Her soft screen presence and natural performance added freshness to the love story. Audiences have responded well to the lead pair’s chemistry, which appears to be one of the film’s biggest strengths.

Despite the ongoing exam season and a dry spell at the box office, the film managed steady occupancy, especially in multiplexes. Trade circles believe that if the positive word of mouth continues, Couple Friendly could see solid growth over the weekend.

For a content driven romantic drama, this opening signals that good storytelling can still attract theatre audiences.
