Rustic spaces are often associated with a cozy kind of charm, but it can be difficult to make them feel luxe. Personally, worn wood and patterned tiles aren’t my go-to formula for an elevated, hotel-style space – especially in a bathroom – but Blake Lively just showed me exactly how to get the look.
Blake revealed a glimpse of her sprawling bathroom in a styling video posted to her Instagram, and it puts an unexpectedly glamorous spin on the boho look. Her textured cream tiles and wood beams are the classic building blocks of a rustic bathroom, but Blake pairs them with antique-inspired details like delicate wall sconces and even framed artwork.

Even if you usually prefer contemporary aesthetics to the ‘shabby chic’ look, I’d bet that Blake’s art-filled bathroom will pique your interest. While the cream hues create a serene, spa-like feel, the wood ceiling beams and mismatched tiling add a unique, homespun touch.
The result is a bathroom that feels decidedly rustic and yet curiously elegant. Perhaps it’s the metal fixtures: dashes of bronze instantly elevate the space, creating a more stately atmosphere.
Displaying art in a bathroom is, of course, a little controversial, but I think it’s a brilliant way to bring dimension to a more pared-back space. A bathroom filled with neutral hues and organic materials will always create a peaceful scene, but without a few striking accessories, it can risk feeling a little flat.
In Blake’s space, an ingenious combination of textures and finishes is what adds warmth and personality. The tiles might be my favorite part: they provide plenty of visual interest using a variety of earthy tones. I love how a darker section breaks up the look, showcasing bold color choice that’s echoed in both the sconces and the paintings.
Alone, each of these elements – the organic wood beams, the tile patterns and the lighting – feel representative of slightly different design styles. Here, however, they fit seamlessly together, creating a stylish and character-rich bathroom.
Layering can be difficult to master, but Blake has mastered the art. It seems that hotel-style opulence isn’t just reserved for contemporary aesthetics or ornate schemes; Blake proves that charming, rustic spaces can be just as impressive.

‘Blake’s bathroom is a strong example of how mixing a rich palette of materials can create a space that feels cocooning, relaxing and organically luxurious,’ says Camilla Masi, Interior Designer at Otto Tiles. ‘The tiling is layered very deliberately, and this surface variation adds depth and movement without introducing a lot of shine.’
The result? ‘The wall feels tactile and relaxed rather than overly polished, and the layering of materials takes precedence over bold contrast,’ Camilla explains. ‘The framed artwork adds refinement and personality, preventing the bathroom from feeling purely functional, while the wall sconces shift the feel from farmhouse to boutique hotel.’
Blake’s bathroom has convinced me that I’ve been severely underestimating the elegance of boho bathrooms. Not only do they feel calming and restorative, but they also have the potential to look unexpectedly sophisticated – and create that enviable, hotel-style look that we’re all dreaming about.
