Welcome to New York, celebrity wedding style! The City that Never Sleeps has been host to many an on-screen meet-cute, from Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days to Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo’s adventures through the city in 13 Going on 30. It’s no surprise, then, that many celebrity couples choose to celebrate their special day in a suitably screen-worthy location.
As Maya Hawke joins the set of NYC lovebirds tying the knot, we’re here to walk you through the other celeb pairings who chose the Big Apple as the location for their big day.

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have been loved up for over 25 years
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick
The fashion inspiration for every teenager in the ’90s and beyond had to have a similarly stylish wedding. It’s no wonder then that Sex and the City’s fifth character (New York that is, not Mr Big) starred in Sarah Jessica Parker’s wedding to Matthew Broderick in 1997. They were first introduced by SJP’s brothers, Pippin and Toby, after Matthew directed a play at their theatre, the Naked Angels Theater Company.
The ceremony took place at New York City’s Angel Orensanz Synagogue and was a surprise to all 100 guests as what they thought was a party turned out to be a surprise wedding. Speaking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Matthew explained that he knew they were meant to go the distance the first time he met Sarah: “I saw her walking down the street and thought, ‘That’s it.’”

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’ love has lasted the test of time.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are something of a fixture in public consciousness as a couple that are built for a lifetime’s commitment. Working through a brief split in 2013, and a reconciliation less than a year on, the pair celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year.
Their New York wedding took place, of course, at the Plaza Hotel with attendees including Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt. Three months after Catherine gave birth to their first child, Dylan, they celebrated saying “I do” with a party that went from dusk till dawn, only noticing it was time to wrap up when the piano player took his leave. Catherine recounted to Drew Barrymore on her talk show that when her new husband called the manager and said they couldn’t track down the pianist, the manager replied: “It’s 6:30 in the morning, Mr Douglas. The pianist has gone home.”

Hilaria and Alec Baldwin share 7 children together
Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Baldwin
Alec Baldwin and wife Hilaria’s love story is bound up with the city of New York. They met, got engaged and married all within the Big Apple’s borders. Meeting in 2011 at a restaurant in the city, Alec proposed just over a year later in April 2012 at a lighthouse in East Hampton. Their NYC wedding took place just two months later at the Basilica of St Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan.
They welcomed their first child a year later and have had seven children together. They renewed their vows five years later at the Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack in Long Island, New York.
Hilaria recalled meeting her now-husband during a joint interview with The New York Times in 2012: “I was standing near the door with my friends when he walked up and took my hand and said, ‘I must know you.’ And then he gave me his card.”

It doesn’t get more perfect than this otter-ly adorable pair
Marc Jacobs and Charly Defrancesco
Marc Jacobs and Charly ‘Char’ Defrancesco’s marriage reflected the pair’s heartwarming bond with personal details scattered throughout the ceremony and right back to the proposal. After a low-key New York ceremony, they headed to Manhattan’s Grill Room for a dazzling reception, featuring a five-tier wedding cake and stylish party favours, including a Marc Jacobs sweatshirt embroidered with hand-holding otters and the words “don’t float away”.
The sentiment reflected the designer’s vows to Charly, in which he said: “What you have given me, what I have never had before, is the dream of a happy forever and I promise you that I will never ever float away.” Other thoughtful touches include custom onyx penguin pins from Miu Miu design director Fabio Zambernardi to symbolise “faithfulness and fidelity,” according to Jacobs’ Instagram.

Matt Damon and Luciana’s meet-cute is straight out of a romance novel
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso
Is that Hallmark calling? Matt Damon and Luciana’s meet-cute had his now-wife hiding the Hollywood star (and putting him to work) at her bar in 2003. Matt has since adopted her daughter Alexia and the pair have had three more daughters together. Just like their first meeting, they kept their 2005 wedding under wraps, holding a private ceremony at New York City Hall.
They renewed their vows just eight years later, with officiant Jimmy Kimmel leading the ceremony. The besotted groom reportedly told his wife that he’d always keep his “sense of humour through everything and anything life throws at us” and “be the dad our four beautiful children deserve, and to be your best friend”.

Justin and Hailey are certainly one of Hollywood’s ‘it’ couples
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin
Singer Justin Bieber and model Hailey Bieber are about as close to an ‘it’ couple as you can get. So fans were understandably over the moon when the two got engaged in the Bahamas in July 2018. The pair were quick to cement their love just two months later, secretly securing marriage licenses in New York.
Their second wedding lived up to the couple’s reputation. In September the following year, the loved up pair hosted a sunset ceremony at the Montage Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, South Carolina, with 154 guests in attendance to witness the bride walk down the aisle in a custom Off-White gown.
