Duff’s first album in 10 years luck… or something is due Friday, Feb. 20
Hilary Duff got more candid about her single “Mature.”
The singer and actress opened up further about the first new music she released in 10 years during a cover story interview with Glamour published on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
“It’s definitely about a relationship that I had. It was very brief with someone older than me, and that was not illegal, but inappropriate when you have this much time removed from it,” Duff, 38, told the publication.
She continued, “Everybody speculates, but I’m not sure they got it right…. I think that it’s super nuanced and it’s hard to defend certain things that have happened in my life.”
Duff then noted that “working as an adult since I was 10 years old, it’s very hard to have relationships with people your own age.”
She then coyly pointed out that “if I wanted to say who [the song was about], I would.”
Duff released “Mature” in November 2025, which was cowritten and produced by her husband Matthew Koma. The track marked her first new original single since her 2015 album Breathe In. Breathe Out.
In a statement at the time, the “Roommates” singer wrote, “Mature’ is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self.”

She continued, “The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other. It’s a chuckle, a wink and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed.”
After its release, fans began fans speculated about the song’s inspiration — and many roads led back to Leonardo DiCaprio due to the lyric, “very Leo of you with your Scorpio touch.” (The actor, born Nov. 11, is a Scorpio.)
Then, Koma, 38, fueled the flames by sharing a meme of DiCaprio, 51, in Titanic with her album artwork on his Instagram Stories.
Duff addressed the rumors later that month during an interview on On Air with Ryan Seacrest.
“First of all, we’re getting the biggest kick out of the speculations,” she said at the time. “It’s honestly, it’s thrilling. It’s 100% thrilling and the internet is such a funny place. I’m obsessed with everyone and I’m seeing all the videos.”
Duff added, “No, you can’t take anything that Matthew posts seriously. He’s the biggest troll on the planet Earth and he will lead everybody down all the roads and have the most fun doing it.”
She concluded that she was “not confirming, not denying anything here.”
