The countdown has begun for the Sussexes UK return, but could Meghan’s demands push their rift with the royals to ‘breaking point’?

Prince Harry’s long-awaited hopes of smoothing over relations with the Royal Family could be facing a fresh hurdle, as Meghan Markle is reportedly preparing for a return to Britain, armed with a list of requests that insiders claim is already causing a bust-up between the couple.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is said to be considering travelling to the UK this summer with Harry, 41, and their children Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, marking her first visit since 2022.
But while the trip could signal a major step forward for the Sussexes, sources tell us that tensions are brewing behind the scenes, with Harry allegedly worried that Meghan’s lavish demands could risk overshadowing his attempts to rebuild family ties.
‘Harry is not happy at all. He’s warned Meghan that pushing these demands could completely destroy any chance of repairing relations with his family,’ the source says.
We’re told that Meghan has drawn up what’s being described as a ‘Hollywood-level rider’ ahead of the potential visit, and Harry is said to be deeply uneasy about how it could be received by his relatives.
And after tensions between Meghan and Kate Middleton appeared to reach fever pitch when the Princess of Wales was pictured seemingly glaring at Meghan at the late Queen’s 2022 funeral, according to insiders, Meghan is pitching after Kate’s own team.
Among her requests, the source claims Meghan may ask for use of the Princess of Wales’ trusted glam squad, plus a luxury entourage including Norland-trained nannies and high-profile children’s stylist Charlotte Kewley.
She is also believed to be pushing to stay at Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, the Waleses’ former London residence before their 2022 move to Adelaide Cottage with Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.
‘Meghan is demanding to stay at Apartment 1A and wants a full team sent in ahead of their arrival,’ the insider claims.
‘She wants the apartment more personalised to her own tastes and has asked that everything be completely ‘non-toxic’, which could mean anything from replacing kitchenware to overhauling cleaning products and ensuring every linen item is washed in chemical-free detergent.’

Now much more accustomed to her new life in Montecito, Meghan’s list doesn’t stop there, as the source claims she has added her own Hollywood touches to her list of demands for the short stay.
‘She wants private chefs, a yoga instructor, two Norland nannies hired to match the standards used by William and Kate, and a dedicated stylist for Archie and Lilibet, with a six-figure clothing budget to manage their appearances in the very best way,’ the source says.
‘Kate’s glam team must also be available, including hairstylist Amanda Cook Tucker and make-up artist Arabella Preston, and Meghan is adamant that she wants to fly in celebrity stylist Law Roach for public appearances.’
Meghan is expected to join Harry in Birmingham to kick off the one-year pre-launch of the Invictus Games, which takes place in the West Midlands city in July 2027.
The event holds deep emotional significance for the couple, who famously debuted their romance at the 2017 Toronto event, appearing inseparable as they held hands and shared affectionate moments.
Her return to the event has not been confirmed, but she has been by his side throughout most of the Invictus Games and the pre-events at Vancouver, Canada, Düsseldorf in Germany, The Hague in the Netherlands and Sydney, Australia.
But nearly a decade later from their first PDA, insiders suggest the atmosphere behind the scenes is far more strained this time around and that the preparations have triggered disagreements between the Sussexes.
‘He’s effectively read Meghan the rule book, and even if she has to grit her teeth, he needs them both to be at their best. He’s keen for a reconciliation and is tired of the emotional torment of this estrangement, so the last thing he wants is Meghan ruffling feathers with her Hollywood A-list rider demands,’ the insider says.
‘From his point of view, it would only confirm the worst assumptions about them, so he’s begged Meghan to rein it in or not come at all.’

Security is said to be another major sticking point. Amid the couple’s ongoing legal battles over protection in the UK, Meghan has reportedly demanded eight ex-military or special forces bodyguards for herself and Harry, plus three personal guards for each child, alongside access to royal armoured vehicles.
At this stage, it’s unclear whether Harry and his family will be granted the security of the Metropolitan Police, and it’s reported that Meghan is unlikely to return if they’re not given this assurance.
But Harry, who returned to the UK last month for a court appearance and reunited with King Charles over tea last September – marking their first face-to-face meeting since early 2024 – is said to be desperate to rebuild bridges, even if that means delivering a stark warning to Meghan.
‘He’s told Meghan their royal titles are not guaranteed forever and that making huge demands could put them at further risk of being stripped, which naturally could have serious consequences for their future,’ the source says.
Unlike Harry, who has made several solo visits to Britain in recent years, Meghan has not returned since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
Meanwhile, relations between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales remain fragile following Harry and Meghan’s dramatic royal exit in 2020. And insiders suggest Meghan’s alleged requests could deepen the divide even further.
The source says, ‘This visit could be make-or-break. One wrong move and there may be no way back, for their royal future or for their relationship with the family. And if William and Kate hear what Meghan is asking for, they’ll be horrified.
‘There’s real concern this visit could push an already delicate situation past breaking point.’
