What happens in the Hamlet trailer?
The Hamlet trailer introduces a new take on the legendary play of the same name. This time, the story of Hamlet is transported to the world of London’s nightlife, and features a story taking place entirely in the modern day, but still very much telling the story of Shakespeare’s play.
In it, Hamlet (Ahmed) returns to London for his father’s funeral, and finds his uncle is marrying his mother. Hamlet then spirals into a journey of revenge, while trying to figure out the mystery within his own family as well.
Alongside Ahmed, the new version of Hamlet also stars Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chaddha, Avijit Dutt, Art Malik, and Timothy Spall. The movie is directed by Aneil Karia, from a script written by Michael Lesslie. The movie is the second film centered around Hamlet to be released in a two-year span. In 2025, the Oscar-nominated feature film Hamnet, from director Chloé Zhao, was released.
