The stars of Love Story, in order of how much they’re slaying, are as follows: Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Paul Anthony Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr., and Paul Anthony Kelly’s chest hair as John F. Kennedy Jr.’s chest hair. Nos. 2 and 3 on the list are in a dead heat, and it really depends on how much chest we’re seeing in each episode. Since the series premiered, Kelly’s historically accurate chest hair has become the object of much online thirst, and you better believe he’s aware of it. The former model, who was plucked from the obscurity of L.L.Bean catalogues to star in the show, is on the cover of GQ Hype this week and had plenty to say about his “au naturel” look.
“We live in a time when everyone is hairless and beefy and ripped and whatever,” Kelly said when asked about the chest-hair fan cams. “I keep it au naturel. I have chest hair, I own it. I don’t really want to fit into anyone’s mold. I did that for so long being a model.” Okay, so if you look at this the right way, it’s a huge win for body positivity.
The actor added that he previously had to go hairless during his time as a model in order to “fit that mold.” “But now I’m in the business of breaking that mold,” he said. “Maybe being objectified a little bit as a model and perhaps held at a certain degree prepared me for what’s next.”
Kelly is definitely still being objectified (see: exhibits A, B, and C), but he seems pretty chill about it. When asked if it was unsettling to be so ogled so quickly, Kelly brushed it off. “Why not? Listen,” he said, “there’s an ass for every saddle.” Yeehaw!
