High school is hell in the new trailer and poster for Foreigner.

Raven Banner gears up to launch the social horror thriller this spring after it concludes its festival run, which launched with its world premiere at Fantasia last summer.

Tickets are currently on sale for Foreigner‘s US premiere at Cinequest.

In Foreigner, “Iranian immigrant Yasamin Karimi is desperate to fit in at her new Canadian high school, and all roads lead to resident queen bee Rachel Stanford. Determined to be accepted, Yasi ditches her curls, perfects her English, and dyes her hair blonde. But as she transforms into the perfect 2004 It Girl, something ancient and horrifying begins to wake — a demon tied to her roots. Foreigner is Ava Maria Safai’s debut bubblegum horror film about assimilation, identity, and what happens when you trade your soul for social survival.”

The film was written, edited, and directed by Ava Maria Safai.

Rose Dehgan, Chloé Macleod, Maryam Sadeghi, Ashkan Nejati, Talisa Mae Stewart, and Victoria Wardell star.

“Ava Maria Safai is a bold new voice in horror, who brings a fearless new perspective to the screen,” Raven Banner’s Managing Partner, Michael Paszt, said of the film’s acquisition. “Not only has she announced herself as a talent to watch in Canada, but internationally as well. We’re proud to be working with Ava and her team.”

Canadian-Iranian filmmaker Ava Maria Safai added, “Media shapes how we see ourselves, and when you grow up never seeing anyone like you on screen, you start to shrink to fit the frame. I made Foreigner to help break that cycle and create space for people who’ve been erased, so they can finally see themselves at the center.”

Folklore and coming-of-age terror collide in the trailer and poster below.

Stay tuned for Foreigner‘s release date as its announced.
