An emergency services call has revealed how Bobby J Brown’s wife frantically tried to save him after he was trapped in a barn fire. The Wire actor died on Tuesday (24 February) following the horrific blaze. Bobby, who was 62 when he died, was trying to jump start his car inside the barn when he was overcome by smoke.
The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed that his cause of death was diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation. Audio from a 911 call hears a dispatcher talking to the emergency services as they attempted rescue the TV star. The call audio on TMZ details how Arlene had called to report that Bobby was “trapped” in the barn.

She reportedly added that a fire broke out when he tried “to start up his old Cadillac”. The first responders launched a “nursing operation”, in which they would get water to the house. The dispatcher recommended they use a fireboat as they were close to the water but noted that they had “exposure issues with two vehicles” as fire engines arrived at the scene.
They could then be heard telling first responders that the space available was “tight” and requested that they “leave room for the special services”.
Responders were able to get water to the fire and being dousing it, but as they did, the fire spread to nearby grass. One was heard saying on the call: “Command to the entire group. Are you able to reposition that one hand line over here to the grass here? It’s spreading.”

Actor Bobby’s death was revealed by his daughter on Thursday. According to the family Bobby had called a relative after the fire started to ask for a fire extinguisher, but by the time that relative had arrived, the fire had already engulfed the barn.
Bobby was best known for his role in HBO series The Wire, as Officer Bobby Brown. He also had roles in Law & Order: SVU, Veep and We Own This City. His last onscreen role will be as Mr Fouchet in the pilot episode of The Sessions.
After his death was revealed, fans flooded social media with tributes. One wrote: “Rest in peace, legend. He was such a good actor.” Another added: “It’s heartbreaking to hear this news. His work left a lasting mark on television and touched fans across the globe. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who admired his talent.”
Bobby is not the only actor from The Wire to die recently. His co-star, James Ransone, died in December aged 46. He was best known for playing Ziggy Sobotka, a Baltimore dock worker in the second season of the show. James’ death was ruled by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as a suicide.
