Neil Sedaka, who died at the age of 86 on Friday per a statement from his family, will be remembered as an all-time great songwriter.

“Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka,” read the statement from his family, via Variety. “A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”
What was the cause of death? None was listed, but People reports that “Sedaka was taken to the hospital Friday morning and died later in the day.”
