Racing-comedy “Pegasus 3” maintained its dominant lead at the China box office during the March 6–8 weekend, earning RMB168.9 million ($23.8 million) in its third full weekend of release, according to data from Artisan Gateway.
Produced by PMF Pictures, the film has now reached a cumulative total of $578.7 million since its debut. Directed by Han Han and starring Shen Teng, the story follows veteran racer Zhang Chi as he leads an underdog national team into the international Muchen 100 Rally.
Martial arts epic “Blades of the Guardians” secured the second spot for the weekend, taking in $11.4 million and pushing its total to $180.4 million. Produced by Peace Film Production, the film is an adaptation of the popular manhua directed by Yuen Woo-ping and featuring a star-studded cast including Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse, and Jet Li. The narrative centers on the mercenary Dao Ma, a wandering bounty hunter who is entrusted to escort a mysterious fugitive across the treacherous Western deserts to the capital of Chang’an.
Zhang Yimou’s espionage thriller “Scare Out” held third place, adding $9.4 million for a cumulative total of $174.4 million. Produced by Damai Entertainment, the film stars Jackson Yee and Zhu Yilong as elite agents in a national security unit. The plot follows their high-stakes race to identify and capture spies who have leaked classified intelligence.
Animation staple “Boonie Bears: The Hidden Protector” followed in fourth with $4.9 million for a $143.1 million cumulative total. Produced by Fantawild Animation, the 12th feature in the franchise sees Briar, Bramble, and Vick embark on an adventure into a mysterious ancient forest. After stumbling upon a magical creature known as the “Nian,” the trio must work together to protect the creature and the forest’s sacred balance from a greedy entrepreneur seeking to exploit its mystical energy.
Rounding out the top five, comedy-drama “Night King” earned $3 million for a total of $25.8 million. Produced by Edko Films and directed by Jack Ng, the film is set in 2012 at a fading hostess nightclub in Tsim Sha Tsui East. Starring Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng, the story follows a stubborn manager and his cutthroat ex-wife who must join forces to save the business from a hostile corporate takeover.
Mainland China’s overall weekend grosses reached $58.2 million, while the 2026 year-to-date revenue stands at $1.52 billion, down 53.6% from the same period in 2025.
