EXCLUSIVE: A new era of Resident Evil is on the way, and it sounds like fans may get their first glimpse sooner than expected.

While speaking with Dread Central about his recent horror-thriller Psycho Killer, legendary producer Roy Lee (Weapons, It, The Ring) offered a brief but exciting update on director Zach Cregger’s highly anticipated Resident Evil reboot.

“Right now, Zach is actively editing the movie for a September release,” Lee told us. “I don’t think he’s shown many people any cut. It’s too early in the process, but I think something will be at CinemaCon later this year. There’ll be some presence.”

Sounds like fans won’t have to wait long for their first glimpse of the highly anticipated reboot. CinemaCon returns to Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, April 13 – 16, 2026. Will there be a trailer? Poster? We will update you as soon as we learn more.

Sony is set to release the new Resident Evil film on September 18. The project marks a fresh take on Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise, which helped define modern horror gaming. The games follow characters as they battle the bio-engineered horrors unleashed by the sinister Umbrella Corporation.

Cregger’s involvement has generated major excitement among horror fans following the breakout success of his 2022 hit Barbarian. The filmmaker’s Academy Award-nominated 2025 horror film Weapons has further cemented his reputation as one of the genre’s most exciting modern voices.

The new Resident Evil stars Austin Abrams (Weapons), Paul Walter Hauser (The Naked Gun), and Zach Cherry (Fallout).
