Princess Kate’s friendly personality was on full display at a recent event.
During a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey with Prince William, King Charles III, Queen Camilla and Princess Anne on Monday, March 9, Kate spotted longtime royal photographer Arthur Edwards taking her picture from across the room.
The mom of three, 44, instantly smiled and mouthed “hello” to the man who has worked for U.K. newspaper The Sun since 1975, breaking an unspoken rule for royals, who rarely interact with or even make eye contact with photographers.
Kate, who was spotted chatting with Edwards last November, is an exception. “She’s a superstar,” he gushed on The Sun’s YouTube channel last year. “She just does everything so well. She’s always so very pleasant, she’s charming, she’s got the smile that would please any photographer.”

“When she smiles, the camera lights up,” he continued. “She’s the most important member of the royal family. She is, in fact, the star.”
In an article for the outlet in 2024, Edwards, who has praised the princess’ own photography skills, added that she is “always a delight to work with.”
