EXCLUSIVE: Sean Durkin has added four to the cast of his new A24 movie Deep Cuts: Abubakr Ali (A House of Dynamite), Quintessa Swindell (Black Adam), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight) and Gaby Hoffmann (C’mon C’mon).
Character details are under wraps. As previously announced Cailee Spaeny, Drew Starkey, and Ariela Barer also star.
An adaptation of the debut novel by Holly Brickley, Deep Cuts is a love story set in the 2000s about two music-obsessed twenty-somethings navigating the messy realities of ambition, belonging and adulthood over the course of an era-defining decade.
Durkin is directing from his own script, also producing alongside Central’s Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie, Anthony Katagas, Jordan Tappis and A24. Blake Mills is creating original music for the film.
Most recently seen in Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite, Ali’s also known for his work on shows like Power Book II: Ghost, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Katy Keene. Upcoming, he’ll be seen in the film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother from Bassam Tariq. He is repped by Gersh, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer.
Previously seen in Apple TV’s Prime Target, HBO’s In Treatment and Netflix’s Trinkets, along with films like Black Adam, Master Gardener and Voyagers, Swindell’s upcoming slate also includes Mubi’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma with Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson. She is repped by Gersh, Black Bear Management, and Myman Greenspan Fox.
Leigh is an Oscar nominee seen recently in projects like Crime 101, Night Always Come, and Fargo, who will next be seen starring in Netflix’s horror drama series Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, out later this week. Other upcoming projects include Prime Video’s Bishop and the indie New England Toys. She is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
