Prince Archie of Sussex, the eldest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will turn 7 on May 6, the very same day his grandfather, King Charles III, kicks off the highly anticipated spring celebrations of the British royal calendar.

The famed Garden Parties are a dazzling display of color, featuring elegant hats and top hats, where the King and Queen spotlight charitable work and public service across the United Kingdom. For the monarch, however, these gatherings carry a bittersweet note, one closely tied to his grandchildren.

These garden parties date back to Queen Victoria’s era in the late 19th century. They are lavish affairs, and it’s estimated that each party serves around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches, and just as many slices of cake.

This year, the first event will take place on May 6, followed by parties on May 8 and 12 at Buckingham Palace. On May 19, the King will attend the party hosted by the Not Forgotten Association, a charity supporting war veterans. The final party of 2026 will be held on June 30 at Holyroodhouse, the royal residence in Edinburgh.

These dates are firmly marked on the King’s calendar, yet they are tinged with melancholy, as he faces another birthday of his grandson Archie spent across an ocean.

Reports suggest that King Charles would welcome closer contact with Prince Harry’s children, a relationship that has been distant since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties six years ago.

A meeting with Harry at Clarence House earlier this year had hinted at a possible thaw in their relationship, opening the door to a family reunion. Harry expressed a willingness to reconcile with his family, acknowledging the value of letting go of past conflicts and emphasizing the importance of family connections.

Their upcoming trip to Australia marks another display of influence in one of the Commonwealth’s key nations, a country where Meghan first won over public opinion during the couple’s initial official tour.

Throughout it all, they maintain extreme discretion regarding their children. While Archie and Lilibet are increasingly featured in their social media posts, it is always done subtly, with their faces mostly hidden, yet mindful of the public interest their children generate, which continues to amplify the reach of their initiatives.
