We’re all familiar with celebrities moving to Montana. While many decide to live in exclusive areas like the Yellowstone Club, others decide to buy a piece of land and live a quiet life here in Big Sky Country.
Oh, and it just so happens that one of those “Montana residents” was on a show about living in Montana.
For those of you who are familiar with the show “Yellowstone” you surely know who Kacee Dutton is. The youngest of the clan, the character is former Special Forces with a bit of a past. In real life, the character is played by Luke Grimes who decided to call Montana home after spending time here filming.
Grimes, who recently appeared on the Joe Rogan Podcast talked about living here in Big Sky Country and one of the things the two discussed was the reaction of the locals. Grimes stated on the podcast that Montanans haven’t been real warm to him or his family since decided to call the Treasure State home.

Celebrity reveals truth about living in Montana
Grimes told the story about friends visiting from California and locals writing “Go Back” in dirt on the vehicle with California plates.
This shouldn’t come as a big surprise for folks, I mean, it’s well documented that Montanans love Montana and they’re not particularly fond of people from California. So, while this may have happened recently, it’s been going on for years. In fact, Rogan comments that something similar happened to him when he was visiting back in 2012.
Are Montanans friendly to tourists?
What do you think? Should we be kind to our out of state visitors? Tourism is one of the biggest industries in the state, with non-residents spending around 5 billion dollars in 2024. What does that mean? Well that means jobs, roads, schools, etc.

Are Montanans rude to tourists? Well, some are, however, you’ll also find many Montanans to be warm and welcoming…as long as you go back to where you came from.
