I adore her, and she’s absolutely right. I spent most of my childhood in a rural area that had a lot of poverty, and one of the things that makes me proud of growing up there was the sheer amount of support our local community gave each other. Our public school had free breakfast, lunch and snacks, plus parents that served food to kids who had to stay after school. We routinely did clothing and food drives and people could apply anonymously. It’s what honestly makes me so passionate about mutual aid and it’s really the only thing that has given me hope in this awful timeline and administration. When so many of our most critical life-saving federal programs are being cut, taking care of each other is more important than ever before.

I can’t imagine how any billionaire can sleep at night knowing that children are going to bed hungry and that they could fix it.

Just to add a bit of strange levity to this, my brain momentarily thought the headline said “I shagged a car”.

  4. I am honestly so happy that the children have a new Mr Rogers esque figure, one that can be a good influence on them.
