mgk: “This is for our unborn child.” 🙏 The first part of this song, “twin flame,” is mgk’s love letter to Megan Fox, and the second part is about the child mgk and Megan Fox lost to miscarriage.

“There are two parts to this song,” mgk wrote about “twin flame” in the “mainstream sellout behind the scenes” zine, a separate companion booklet to his “mainstream sellout” album that documents behind-the-scenes stories about the songs as well as photos from the album’s recording process. “The first part, I wrote as a birthday gift for Megan a couple months after we met. I wrote it and recorded it the morning of May 16, 2020, drove it over to her house and pressed play. It was my love letter to her. You can lose a piece of paper, but songs are forever. She left for Europe the next day for work. It was early in our relationship, so I was just waiting, hoping the song was a reminder to always come back to me.”

“The second part of this song came almost two years later,” mgk wrote in the zine. “Well, actually, it started as a song called ‘one day and 10 weeks.’ Then I made a song called ‘last november.’ Neither expressed the sadness we experienced from what I will leave private, and I circled back to this song and decided to add on to the story. Our story.”

mgk also said, “This is for our unborn child” during his performance of “twin flame” at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) in 2022.

“last november,” a song mgk wrote about the child he and Megan Fox lost to miscarriage, was included on “life in pink deluxe,” the deluxe edition of his album “mainstream sellout.”

mgk’s Grammy-nominated, Billboard No. 1 rock album “mainstream sellout” just turned 4, and that was another story behind the album.
