If I had her history of misogynistic smear campaigns I wouldn’t get anywhere near the gaming community. She’s braver than I am lol

  2. Comprehensive_Main on

Bigger than movies sure. Television I wouldn’t say. Like video games still locked in demographically. People of all ages watch tv and movies.

  3. I love how she won a Best Actress Oscar and then pivoted to creating nerdy media lmao I hope she’s happy!

  4. I mean if you include games for smartphones and the international gaming market, there is no comparison.

  5. IDK I feel like movies have taken plenty from video games and rarley been successful.

  6. Because gaming is interaction based entertainment with films and shows you basically just watch.

  7. There is a lot to take from gaming.

However, what companies are going to end up taking away from this is that they need a way to add loot boxes to movies.

The writing and storytelling for games has gotten so good over the years that they are literally making TV shows based off the games. The Last Of Us and Fallout are great examples of that.

She is awesome and I’ve loved this seeing as she has appeared I no Scott Pilgram VS. the world years ago! Honestly just such a cool and amazing person! Can’t wait to see her in the movie next week!

I work for the gaming industry, well *worked*, there’s mass layoffs coming in every direction in the gaming world.

Umm wow the cinema world should be taking from video games? Cultural appropriation much. /s

    Brie Larson rocks.

i mean this sounds reasonable in theory but i cant really think of what the gaming industry does **for growth** that would be conducive to art

not that games aren’t art, they definitely are. rather, what sustains the economic growth of the gaming industry are measures outside of or even in detriment to what we’d normally consider artistic outcomes.

addicting gameplay loops from candy crush to fortnite to league of legends is where the gaming industry gets its bread buttered. and again, there is an art to all of these gameplay loops but id argue the intention is/can be far closer to how apps are designed to maximize engagement rather than a meaningful experience.

of course there’s something like fromsoft whose game are incredibly satisfying while also offering rich worldbuilding. but i sincerely doubt these are the lessons hollywood would take from the gaming industry as a whole

Studio exec : “I hear what you are saying, we will now have micro-transactions in our movies”

I mean they can try. But as history taught us you fuck that up and you ruin your future in the industry

Some of the most interesting stories in media are coming from video games once you scratch the surface.

So far I’ve been seeing her get some gaming support.SM is hyped for her Rosalina. I think that stems from the years she shown that she’s loved Nintendo. But we know gamer guys can shift quick. So hope she stays away from their darkness. Cause I love her. And so hyped for her

There are some truly beautiful experiences in video games these days, and if you turn your nose at it you are missing out.

If you have never used a controller before, 3D space and joysticks can be an uphill battle. It’s not the easiest thing to learn, but for those of us who have played since we are kids it’s just second nature….which is why they use XBOX controllers to control drones.

  18. When she said worldbuilding, I knew she was being for real. She’s about that life lol wonder if she plays bg3

  19. tessathemurdervilles on

I don’t play video games and never have- but my wife and I just got Alan wake and I am enjoying the hell out of it. She mostly does the controller because I panic when you have to shoot stuff- but it’s such a rich world, it’s exciting, scary, beautiful- there’s some clunky stuff but the writing is really interesting. It’s like a choose your own adventure tv show! Plus it’s fun to work together to figure stuff out. Im on a quest to find more games like that one that we can do together

  20. Own-Lemon8708 on

Please no, I do not want real actors in my games. I hate seeing a real world face on a character. There are enough new actors to give fresh faces and voices a chance in games!

the witcher could’ve been so great. i’ll never forgive them. i’m replaying witcher 3 now and it’s so rich.

  22. She’s not wrong just look at the attention Charlie Cox received for his work in Expedition 33.

It wasn’t that long ago that film actors looked down on TV projects, I see a similar trend for gaming projects.

  23. Yes!!! This immediately made me think of RDR2. My all time favorite game and I still love it after several playthroughs. A true masterpiece!

  24. bananabuckette on

Yes, please! I’d even say stop with the remakes and just create shows and movies from games. Gamers are loyal asf and will support and engage with it plus fresh content for everyone else. Look at fallout.

  25. the dumbest guy you know is currently drafting a video essay called BRIE LARSON WANTS TO TAKE YOUR VIDEO GAMES!!!!!

  26. Pleasant-Ad887 on

There has been more games turned into movie that sucked ass than the other way around.

  27. wolf_at_the_door1 on

She should do a deep dive into gamer gate and then not touch games with a ten foot pole. Even if they cast a girl as a main character in a triple A franchise it receives negative reviews. “tHeIr PuShInG aN aGeNdA!!!1”

  28. Hear me out: She’s not wrong. Look at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. That game was beautiful in every way. The experience of the story is just heartbreakingly beautiful.

  29. mtn_doo_codebrown on

As if I didn’t need another reason to love this woman even more.

Gaming is huge. Transcends countries and cultures. GTA V took $250M to create and generated billions (and counting). Took 3-5 years to make.

  30. MildlyExtremeNY on

Brie Larson doesn’t want to hear from “40-year-old white dudes,” but she wants to know what cinema can take from video games?

  31. Kindly-Ad-5071 on

So reddits hate for her really did just boil down to “famous woman, must destroy” am I reading into this deeply enough

  32. forgot_oldusername on

I don’t think there is such a thing as one, big “gaming community”. But I do know Brie is terrible at a game called Pile of Bullets. Collect your tokens and get on down to the next round!
