Randy Orton vs. Matt Cardona was booked on tonight’s (Mar. 27) episode of SmackDown, one week after The Viper snapped Matt’s left wrist in a vicious assault.
Cardona was aggressive and channeled his inner Cowboy Bob by blasting Orton with the cast on his broken wrist, but it didn’t take long for Randy to dominate. He relentlessly targeted Cardona’s injury in a variety of ways, toying with his victim. Meanwhile, WWE fans awaited the arrival of Cody Rhodes, who Jelly Roll said was on his way to the building.
Orton finally put Cardona out of his misery with an RKO for the three count. Cody’s bus then arrived at the venue, just in time for a commercial break.
Cody stormed the ring after the break, peacefully getting by Nick Aldis and WWE’s skid mark security by saying he was just there to talk. It turns out he was actually there to kick Randy Orton’s ass. Rhodes immediately incited a not-so-exciting brawl that saw him lay in punch after punch on Orton, whose only offense came at the expense of the hapless security. That was until Grammy Award winner Jelly Roll showed up.
Roll scolded both men for their behavior as officials kept the two WrestleMania opponents apart. The Viper then got the last laugh by dropping Jelly with an RKO. Orton left the ring with a smirk on his face, while Cody checked on the fallen celebrity.
Earlier in the show, Randy told the mystery man he’s been talking to on the phone that he’ll see him “soon.” Now that ass-kicker Rhodes is back in WWE, perhaps the mystery man will have to show up next week to give Orton the edge over Cody again.
What did you think of Rhodes returning to punch the crap out of Orton, only for Roll to become his latest victim? Give me your reaction in the comments below, Cagesiders.
