Ok this is very vindicating for me thinking that a ton of men just sound like John krasinski

  2. That’s interesting. Sometimes in commercials I recognize famous actors doing voiceover, like Jeff Bridges, Tim Allen, Catherine Keener, Phylicia Rashad, Susan Sarandon, Aaron Paul, Jon Hamm, and others. Their voices are pretty distinct and stand out.

Will Arnett does the Reese’s Pieces ads, and it’s hard when he says the tagline “Not sorry, Reese’s,” because it sounds almost like “Not sorry, racist.”

That’s an interesting analysis. And it is definitely true that commercial culture in general operates almost entirely by estimating or copying what people respond to and amplifying that back at them.

  4. Just any voice which is not that croaky raspy “vocal fry” voice, which as well as being mega annoying, literally does “fry” your vocal chords.

The Gen X, Gen Z connection has been an ongoing observation and it really hits for me, in like… an upsetting way. Gen Z, I’m rooting for you to not be too Gen X. Be less corny than the Millennials but please… that’s it

  6. This is interesting, one thing do question though is that Gen X is Gen Z’s parent. Wouldn’t Millennials be the majority of their parents?

Billy Crudup’s “Priceless” commercials for MasterCard predate any of Krasinski’s by a good long while, and while those may not be quite as conversational in the way that she means it, neither were they also very performative in the way she says they “always were.” Crudup definitely spoke in a minor key.
