  1. Say what you will about her (I don’t care for her) but as an actor I was told very young to not walk in and shake everybody’s hand. Instead, walk in, give a friendly hello to the room, shake hands if offered, but don’t initiate. I’ve been told thirty different reasons why you shouldn’t shake everyone’s hand, but never had anyone suggest you should do it.

I was on Kid Jeopardy back in the day and the online forums made fun of me for saying “please” and “thank you” too much. I WAS RAISED TO RESPECT MY ELDERS! ALEX 👏TREBEK 👏WAS 👏OLD! 👏

  3. I believe 1) she absolutely is pompous and cocky and 2) these are the exact qualities that enrage men, so I can’t hate

  4. Dakota aside the casting process is the craziest thing when you hear the stories. Its still the only place where someone can be openly discriminated at the level of looks and attributes and just denied roles because of ‘fit’. Of course if there is a specific look or aesthetic you need your character to have thats one thing, but i’m talking about for roles where the character attributes can be more fluid and open.

  5. this actually unlocked a memory for me because i used to think being super polite and soft spoken would make people like me more, but it just made me invisible in certain situations… like i remember in an interview i kept smiling and waiting my turn and the guy literally cut me off twice 😭 ever since then i’ve been trying to be a little more direct even if it feels uncomfortable at first, because apparently “too nice” really is a thing for women lol

Well, fortunately for you, Dakota, you are Hollywood royalty and probably will get another audition

  7. I know people lose roles for all kinds of wild reasons, I just think about how miserable that casting director/director/whatever is to automatically interpret her basic manners this way. *”Omg, can you believe she introduced herself and* ***shook our hands****?! She really thought she’d come in here, lick our asses and have it in the bag!”* 😒

  8. it’s the whole status thing. these bigwigs are the ones in charge and actors and actresses are there to work for them and are beneath them. To these bigwigs, they are above you and you are below them, to shake hands with them means you are their equal. It’s not about her being a women, it’s about her not being at the same “status level” as them. It applies to men too.

I’ve been in countless casting sessions. A lot of people come through and they don’t want to have to go through that process every time and shake all those hands. They want you to come in, be the character, and leave. They also frown upon any marketing materials beyond headshot/resume/reel. Also, they want you to succeed. They don’t want to audition people just for the fun of it.

The excuses people will make up when they have no faith in her acting ability

100% believe this. People in entertainment are so fucking sensitive you wouldnt believe the shit they get crazy about. My guess is that the director and producers didn’t like her to begin with, but were pressured by her agent to see her again and basically just wanted to get her in and out as fast as possible. The more she prolonged the process, the worse it got for her.

How did they turn her having manners, being polite, and acting professionally into THAT?!!!!!

  13. She probably shook hands and said hello in a very poorly acted monotone sort of way.
