In Trouble with the Curve (2012), Clint Eastwood returns to the big screen as Gus Lobel—a legendary baseball scout whose eyesight is failing and whose old-school methods are being pushed aside by a new generation of number-crunching analysts . The Atlanta Braves have sent him on one last assignment: evaluate hot prospect Bo Gentry, a slugger everyone believes is a franchise player .

But Gus sees something the computers can’t. Bo can’t hit a curveball. 😏

The Setup:

Gus has been battling his deteriorating vision throughout the film, relying on his daughter Mickey (Amy Adams) to be his eyes at the ballpark . Mickey, a high-powered lawyer who’s been estranged from her father, reluctantly joins him on the scouting trip to North Carolina . Along the way, they meet Johnny Flanagan (Justin Timberlake), a charming young scout for the Boston Red Sox who was once discovered by Gus himself .

Gus warns Johnny not to let the Red Sox draft Bo. He’s confident the slugger has a fatal flaw. 🎯

The Showdown:

At the final tryout, the Braves are ready to sign Bo based on his stats and power hitting . Gus can barely see, but he doesn’t need his eyes—he listens. The crack of the bat tells him everything. Bo’s swing is off. There’s a hitch. A tell. He’s swinging early, guessing fastball every time. 😳

Then the pitcher throws a curveball.
