Had to go to wiki to do some math – they were married for 14 years (1954 to 1968), their son, Sean, was born in 1960, they were divorced when he was 8.
Those 14 years must have been so hard. He’s (Mel) is such an asshole.

Ugh. I knew from other reading they’d had a bad marriage but holy shit, actively trying to make your wife miscarry with all the potential health implications for her is some next-level darkness.
So many legendary women ended up with men attracted to their shine who ended up trying to snuff it out. She wasn’t quite AUDREY HEPBURN when they met, but Roman Holiday had already hit big before he proposed IIRC. I think he thought he was on the brink of hitting it big too when they got together, and got progressively worse as she became legendary.
I believe she was very happy with Robert Wolders who was her partner from the early 80s until she passed. At least I hope so.

It’s interesting that he described Robert Wolders as “adorable but a doormat”. It seems like Wolders was the only partner who treated her with love and respect and she was apparently very happy with him until her death. It’s sad that a supportive man gets labeled as a doormat.

I don’t know if it’s really necessary for her son to publish yet another book about his mother. These facts have never been unknown. Audrey herself spoke about them throughout her life. I sincerely hope that the proceeds from this book go to a good cause and not into the son’s pocket. I much prefer the younger son. Sean tended at some point to commercialize his mother’s legacy, while Luca was more interested in curating it.

He outkicked his coverage for sure
Fascinating and tragic. But also, it sounds like Sean is no angel either: https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2017/02/audrey-hepburn-son-lawsuit-childrens-fund?srsltid=AfmBOopPIQizD_Hq7CcwQmcsmLvubf1if5yhCsk3ZIfZn2lNB-SIaNEz
