Ryan Reynolds filed a Rule eleven sanctions motion against Justin Baldoni’s legal team demanding attorneys fees, costs, and a formal reprimand. He wanted the defamation claim against him declared frivolous. He wanted Baldoni’s lawyers financially punished. He wanted to walk out of that courtroom having made Baldoni’s entire legal team look like dishonest incompetent frauds in front of the judge deciding this whole case. Judge Lyeman granted the motion in part and denied it in part. The defamation claim against Ryan survived completely. No fees were awarded. No costs. Just a reprimand directed at someone else’s law firm. And in the process of filing this motion Ryan helped unseal documents that gave the world a much closer look at who he actually is behind the brand. He could have stayed quiet. He did not.
