Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have been regular attendees at the royal family Easter celebrations over the years.
This year, though, they will not attend Easter service at St. George’s Chapel on April 5 so as to not “overshadow proceedings.”
The sisters will be invited to future royal family celebrations, however.
In an attempt to not “overshadow proceedings” (per The Times), Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will not attend Easter services with the royal family this week.
The sisters are typical fixtures at the annual event, which takes place at St. George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle. They’re also often seen at other royal family holiday gatherings, like when they joined the family at Sandringham for Christmas late last year.

Beatrice and Eugenie’s absence from Easter services comes after the arrest of their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, in February. Both he and their mother Sarah Ferguson were named numerous times in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Epstein files drop released in January, and Beatrice and Eugenie have kept an extremely low profile since.

Per People, the sisters—with the agreement and understanding of their uncle King Charles—made “alternative plans” for Easter, which falls on April 5 this year. The outlet also reported that it is understood that Beatrice and Eugenie “are expected to join future family celebrations.”

A source recently told the publication that the sisters are trying to “stay away” from the scandal, adding that “their focus is on protecting their own children from this.”
While Beatrice and Eugenie have retained their princess titles and respective Her Royal Highness stylings, Andrew was stripped of his princely title and all other royal titles and privileges in a history-making move by his brother the King last October. Earlier in the month, both Andrew and Sarah surrendered their Duke and Duchess of York titles, and in February both moved out of their shared home, Royal Lodge, on the Windsor estate. While Andrew is now at Sandringham, Sarah’s exact whereabouts remain unknown.

The King and Queen Camilla will be joined by other members of the royal family for the Easter service—including Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children, who are “expected to attend,” according to The Telegraph. The group will attend church together followed by a private lunch at Windsor Castle.

“Eugenie and Beatrice have had to change their upcoming public-facing plans and future plans this year,” an insider told Us Weekly. “They aren’t as worried about Andrew being arrested and going to jail, but they are still horrified that he’s involved in this and worry there could be more to come.”
