At Windsor Castle today, King Charles conducted an investiture ceremony. Among those receiving royal honors was actress Carey Mulligan, who was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year Honors for services to drama. She was joined by her husband, singer Marcus Mumford, for the momentous occasion.

“I feel so unbelievably lucky to get to do a job that I really, really love,” the three-time Oscar nominee said today. “To have this kind of recognition on top is just sort of extraordinary to me.”

Up next for Mulligan is Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles Of Narnia. Today, she said working on the project was a “dream job.”

The Magician's Nephew

In the film, based on the first book in the Narnia series, Mulligan is reportedly set to play Digory’s sick mother. Mabel Kirke. Other actors in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew include Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep, among others. It is set to be released in theaters November 26, and stream on Netflix on December 25.

“I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia,” Gerwig told BBC Radio 4’s Today program in 2024. “I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”
