Some origin stories begin with tragedy, and this one is no different. Deep beneath his laboratory, a grief-stricken Professor Utonium, played by a surprisingly moving Ben Stiller, sets out to create something pure and instead creates something legendary. Elle Fanning is Blossom here, calculated and razor-sharp, her ice breath turning entire battlefields white. Anne Hathaway’s Bubbles carries a gentleness that makes her sonic devastation hit even harder by contrast.

And Kristen Stewart as Buttercup is exactly the kind of controlled fury this role always deserved, all raw strength and restless energy barely held together. But the emotional gut punch of this concept is Mojo Jojo, the discarded first experiment who never stopped waiting for a father who never came back. When his army of giants tears through Townsville, this stops being a superhero story and becomes something much more personal.

Around 10 hours went into this one, and genuinely most of that time was spent on tone. The original cartoon carries so much childhood warmth and I wanted to honor that while pushing the visuals into something cinematic and grounded. Getting the colored flight trails to feel earned rather than gimmicky took several full rebuilds. Multiple tools, a lot of patience, and one or two moments where I almost scrapped the whole thing before it finally came together.
