In an appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast on Tuesday, Lizzo shared that she didn’t have sex for the first time until after she won her first Grammy. Speaking to hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, the singer said she didn’t lose her virginity until 2020, when she was in her 30s. “I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time,” she said, explaining, “I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy.”

Lizzo said she had sex sometime after the 2020 Grammys, where she took home three awards: Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome,” and “Best Urban Contemporary Album” for Cuz I Love You. To be clear, she didn’t do it the exact same day — “It was not the night of Grammys,” she said — but sometime in the months that followed.

Lizzo said it was a relief sharing the story after so many years of keeping it a secret. “I feel a weight off of my chest right now,” she said, explaining how she “used to lie” about it to save face. “I was in a friend group of girls [in college]. We were all girling one night and [one of them] was just like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’” she recalled. “I remember being like, no! I remember it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that — it was so fucking embarrassing.”

Lizzo is in a relationship with musician and TV personality Myke Wright, whom she went public with in 2022. On the podcast, Lizzo said they first met in 2016 while co-hosting MTV’s music series Wonderland, but they didn’t begin dating until 2021. Apparently, the kissing is pretty good. “I don’t like tonguing or swapping of spit,” Lizzo said. “The only person I like it with is my man — I can’t stand it with anyone else.”
