1991 Cape Fear was a classic , Today it would be totally inappropriate make such film with things like attempted rape or inappropriate touching . the scene like Robert De Niro's character attempted rape of Jessica Lange's character , or Robert De Niro's kissing scene of Juliette Lewis or the violent attacked scene of Illeana Douglas's character , it was wrong when the audience felt excited by those scene but back then the audience did enjoy it .
So we've had two versions that I'm aware of, 1962 & 1991, with the '62 original with Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck being truly outstanding. That said, I'm looking at this as a film based on the same idea/theme but "re-imagined" , with that perspective I think it'll work! (Bardem looks and feels truly menacing) 😮😎👍
I think they've made same mistake as the De Niro version. By casting a very famous actor in the baddie role, it kinda takes away the suspension of disbelief from the get-go and makes it much much less scarier. This version feels camp. Bardem has been overacting of late. Or just taking wrong parts that don't fit him. He's a sensational actor in the right part. When he first played a bad role he was brilliant. But that was a great film and he was also very fresh for non Spanish watchers. In the original of this movie though, not sure my argument stacks up. Mitchum was famous, but it worked.

Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams are awful paired couple. No chemistry at all.
