I’ve collected some of his prints. I also wrote my dissertation on him. He’s interesting because the main body of his work was created when he was institutionalised. They believed he had schizophrenia, but it’s hard to know for sure.
Some of these are so unbelievably ahead of their time for the Victorian era. A few of them look like they’re straight out of the late 1960s!Â

My great aunt was a nurse from the 1950s through the 1990s. I have a wooden pen rest of hers that has the progression of his art from literal to extremely abstract.
It was an advertisement for Thorazine.
The film of Louis Wain (with Benedict Cumberbatch) was really good. A few sad moments but very well made and acted
