Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham was reportedly attacked by an alleged stalker during a recent appointment visit in Santa Monica, California.
Fleetwood Mac musician Lindsey Buckingham was allegedly attacked by a woman during a recent outing in Santa Monica, California, according to reports.
Buckingham, 76, was allegedly attacked by the woman when he appeared for an appointment on March 25 in the Southern California Beach town, police confirmed to KTLA, and several law enforcement sources confirmed to NBC4. The woman, identified by police as a stalker, allegedly approached Buckingham as he entered the building and doused the Grammy-winning rocker with an unknown substance before fleeing, the outlets report. The guitarist was not injured.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Threat Management Unit is taking the lead on the case, the LAPD said in a statement to USA TODAY on Wednesday, April 1. “To protect the integrity of the open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be provided, at this time,” police told USA TODAY.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Santa Monica Police Department and Buckingham’s representatives for comment.
Police have identified the suspect but not publicly released the woman’s name and she has not been arrested, according to the outlets. She has been described by authorities as a “stalking suspect” based on previous incidents with Buckingham.
The incident comes nearly a year after Buckingham announced that he and his former Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Stevie Nicks, were rereleasing their 1973 album, “Buckingham Nicks,” for the first time.
The album, sourced from the record’s original analog master tapes, was reissued in both vinyl and CD form in September. Legend has it that drummer Mick Fleetwood, during a trip to Sound City studios in Los Angeles, heard “Frozen Love,” a track off the album, and was so impressed by it that he later offered Buckingham a spot in Fleetwood Mac when guitarist Bob Welch left the group.
Buckingham reportedly insisted that he and Nicks were a package deal, leading the duo to sign on in 1974 for what would ultimately become the most successful musical stint of their careers.
Buckingham’s most recent solo album, the self-titled “Lindsey Buckingham,” was released in 2021.
