Lots of actors have a project or two on their resume they feel like they’ll never escape questions about. For Oscar Isaac (although there’s certainly a couple that could fill that role on his), it’s probably going to be X-Men: Apocalypse for a very long time. Which is a shame, because it mostly sounds like what he got out of that film was avoiding heatstroke in a tent.

Isaac was a guest on this week’s Hot Ones, where of course—perhaps thematically appropriately—he was once again asked to open up about his time on the X-Men flop. The thing is, Isaac just didn’t have much of a time.

“One of the big reasons I did the job, I was like, ‘Fassbender? Jennifer Lawrence? McAvoy? All these amazing actors. Yeah!’,” Isaac explained. “And then I never saw any of them because I was so overheated. And like, I couldn’t turn. So, I just got put in this cooling tent.”

“Sometimes someone would come by and be like [patting him on the back], ‘Hey, Oscar. I’d be like ‘Huh?’ And by the time I turned around, they were gone already. So, it was very challenging. But I am thankful for the cooling tent.”

Again, this is far from the first time Isaac has been asked to answer for the sins of Apocalypse, both the character and the movie. Back in 2018, just two years after the film had released, Isaac described the film as “excruciating” to work on because of him being trapped under layer upon layer of prosthetic effects.

“I didn’t know when I said yes that that was what was going to be happening,” Isaac told GQ at the time. “That I was going to be encased in glue, latex, and a 40-pound suit—that I had to wear a cooling mechanism at all times. I couldn’t move my head, ever.”

So perhaps we can all stop asking Oscar Isaac to relive his sweaty X-perience, because again: it seems most of it was about being in a tent. At least we have Moon Knight to bug him about instead?
