Marvel Comics’ plans for its Star Wars comic book franchise are still up in the air after the post-Return Of The Jedi run on the book suffered the ten-issue curse that has hit so many of Marvel Comics’ new ongoing series of late. Now in May, they are going back before A New Hope, running a series of one-shots focusing on the tenth anniversary of, frankly, my favourite Star Wars film. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with each issue a new number one, and each spotlighting characters from that film, Cassian Andor, Jyn Erso, Saw Gerrera, Chirrut & Baze and Darth Vader, up to September. And then? No idea… Star Wars: Rogue One: Cassian Andor #1 by Benjamin Percy and Luke Ross is first out of the gate in May and is previewed below before it hits FOC on Monday.
“Ten years ago, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story introduced the group of unlikely heroes who stole the plans to the original Death Star and set the stage for the Rebellion’s greatest victory. Announced in February, Marvel Comics will celebrate the anniversary of the beloved film by publishing five one-shots spotlighting its key characters, starting in May with Cassian Andor, who went on to headline the film’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Disney+ prequel series, Andor. Returning to the grit and glory of a Rebellion on the brink of war, the all-new stories will be set just prior to the events of the film, revealing never-before-told backstories and adventures from this pivotal era. Today, fans can see David Marquez’s covers for all five one-shots and a special sneak peek at STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE – CASSIAN ANDOR #1 by Benjamin Percy and Luke Ross, hitting stands on May 6.
