Some characters have to be a certain race for the story to work. Snape being black changes the story completely and makes everyone look like racists.

I have no problem with Snape being black but story wise it makes it look so bad. Imagine he is the only black professor in the cast and will be the only suspected of stealing the stone . And also despite being anti hero type, snape was abusive af to Harry in the book. They could have race swapped other professors, I wonder whose genius idea was this one.

Everyone saying it ruins the story aren’t even thinking of the social implications of their argument. At the end of the day, Harry Potter has always been about class, race, ethnicity. We dont even need a reboot. I have zero desire to give that TERF any more money or attention. Happy that New actors are getting paid or whatever. But as to this topic also why would they make Snape Black and not diversify the entire cast? Especially with all the bullying scenes and how Snape is “Evil”?? The only way to successfully do that is to make the entire cast diverse, so that race is not even a thing in the universe. But is what I am reading correct? Everybody else is their OG race except Snape?? Why? Lol why???

i am not against blind casting, but out of ALL TEACHERS, they chose the one 11 years old harry calls sus and ugly repeatedly, they keep implying he is there to hurt children, and then hermione sets him on fire?? 😭

If there’s a problem with Snape being black, it isn’t that people are racist to him. The problem is that he is a thoroughly disgusting person with no redeeming qualities who joined the magical KKK. The movies and Alan Rickman’s talent and charisma make people think he was just a bit cranky, just a little mean but funny but no, he was a monster. And he was also more of a jewish stereotype, gotta love JKR, she is not discriminating in her bigotry
Anyway, this is SNL, it doesn’t have to be accurate just funny. But people really run with these takes sincerely and I would usually tell them to read the books but good god, this is the last thing I want to do with THIS series

But they didn’t think it through at all and assuming it does well it’s gonna be hilarious seeing they try to navigate all the inevitable now racist situations that will develop such as James Potter and his friend picking on the black kid in particular when he tells Lily why he hates Snape
