Darcy’s Rain Proposal Brutally Rejected: “Your Arrogance Made Me Hate You” (2005) #movies

The most iconic rejection scene in cinematic history! In this pouring rain moment from Pride & Prejudice (2005), Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) finally confesses his love to Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley).
Instead of joy, Elizabeth delivers a devastating rebuttal: “From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry.”
Passionate, emotional, and soaked in rain — this explosive confrontation is pure tension and chemistry! One of the greatest “no” moments ever filmed. 💔🌧️

  1. I replay this scene multiple times every time I watch this movie. Their delivery and ease with the dialogue, their eye contact. It's all so complelling. I think it's one of the most passionate arguments on film.

  2. Best version of this book in movie form. And this scene is a huge reason why. Matthew and Kiera ARE ALWAYS going to be Darcy and Lizzie to me. 🩷🩷🩷🩷
