Kanye needs to stay gone. There’s a lot of focus on his antisemitic remarks, but he has also attacked the black community more than once.
talk-spontaneously on
Kanye tarnished his own legacy by chasing some of the ugliest forms of controversy.
He was always a polarising public figure, but we’re getting further and further away from the period of time where he actually did have some credibility and respect.
tlhsg on
absolutely do NOT let him enter, he brings zero value to the people of the UK
DarlingLuna on
Stupidly enough, I supported Ye’s initial apology. Not in a ‘I’m gonna open my wallet and financially support him’ kind of way, but in a ‘I really hope he’s truly committed to undergoing treatment, for his sake and the sake of those around him.’
A recent clip from his concert was enough to change my mind. In that clip, he said something to the effect of ‘they said I wouldn’t fill up a stadium again, yet here I am!’ The fact that his reaction to being given (yet) another chance would be pride and arrogance instead of pure humility and gratitude told me everything I need to know about his ‘change.’
quadranting on
Even if it were true that he is remorseful and reformed, part of accountability is owning what you did. He spent *years* promoting hate, and anyone who truly turned a new leaf would condemn that past behavior at every turn and accept consequences.

I don’t know how popular this festival is considering I’m living on another continent but when the PM of your country calls you out, you know you goofed. I don’t know what the festival was thinking. There are so many talented artists/bands out there who aren’t controversial but they still chose to go with Ye.
> Prime Minister Keir Starmer said it was “deeply concerning” that West had been booked “despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism”

I hope they deny him, I don’t feel like he’s done enough to make amends for the damage he’s done to the black and Jewish communities.

I’m all for banning Nazis but we gotta be consistent here, team. That should mean **zero** Nazis allowed in the UK. *Zero*.
I somehow doubt this would mean kicking out the Reform candidates who’ve been doing Nazi salutes, nor do I think we’d be banning Musk or Trump.
Greenapple1990 on
Please ban him. Anyone else that made a song called Heil Hitler would be banned

Baring in mind Tyler The Creator got banned for being kind of a rude guy, the “HH” guy can probably be banned pretty safely

I have no problem with Kanye not being allowed in the UK or his shows cancelled. I do have a problem with this energy not being applied to all the others who promote Nazis and hate. Lots of white people are allowed entry, so it’s a bit off that it’s a black man. And again I’m fine with this treatment for Kanye, let’s just hold everyone to this standard
bearwithbearwith on
Fingers crossed the UK does what they did to Chris Brown. Let’s him in, let him act a fool and immediately detain his ass.
(ETA- although in my dream world Kanye has nowhere near the relevance to get booked as a headliner in the first place)

It is going to take years to repair his image. Instead of trying to make more money he should take the time to work on his mental health and do some healing and soul searching. He’s all about himself though and will continue to dig himself a deeper hole.
lcm-hcf-maths on
At this point I feel he is too controversial and has not avoided that controversy for long enough to be granted entry. There have been multiple events between 2022-2025 and the apology in January 2026 is too little at this stage. He is conveniently using a mental health issue but I simply do not buy it. I would allow a three year gap to accumilate since his last incident which is May 2025 I believe…So May 2028 is the earliest I would grant him entry assuming no relapses. He has not provided any independent third-party evidence and his apology is just too convenient as new music releases are up-coming. He did the crime now he needs to serve the time…
Can they do the same for this neo Nazi as well please?

If someone can get arrested for wearing a free Palestine t-shirt, then I don’t know how all the anti-Semitic stuff he’s spouted gets a pass. And to clarify I fully agree with/am Free Palestine – but what he’s said is just full on anti-Semitic and the logic doesn’t make sense to me
Edited to add: Also the other hateful things he’s said that are anti-black, homophobic, other-phobic, sexual assault, etc… the list goes on.
SirMike_MT on
Valentina Gomez was allowed in for the hate march and she’s much worse, Chris Brown along with Travis Scott was let in and we all know what POS they are for physically attacking people among many other things.
This picking and choosing is ridiculous, they need to be consistent.
Natural-Hunter-3 on
As a former Kayne fan, anyone giving him second chances is genuinely either a moron or greedy. This man has told us time and time and time again that he will not change and he will not grow, and if you think this started around his marriage breaking down you’re goofy as hell, Kanye has been doing this since Bush was president with zero remorse. These festivals know all about his controversy and still choose to book him because they think the profit will outweigh the controversy and once again they’re proving they haven’t a fuckin clue what people want. We do not want this mf to have a redemption arc if it’s not sincere.

But Netanyahu can enter and even meet with the prime minister, right?
navis-svetica on
The idea that one faceless apology (which we don’t even know that he wrote) should be enough to set everything back to normal is outlandish to me. This is like the 5th time he’s apologized, and every previous time he’s gone back on his apologies and went back to saying and doing the same shit he did before.
I made my personal decision to never support him again after he made a song where he literally says ’Heil Hitler’, which to me is something you can never expect to redeem yourself from, but even for people who are willing to give him a second chance (or probably more accurately, a 57th chance) the way back towards redemption and being a respected and trusted public figure once again is *long*. He has expended all the benefit of the doubt and good faith he could possibly get, and then some. He called himself a Nazi and said he loved Hitler. He went on every far-right podcast/stream that would have him, wearing a black KKK outfit. He sold shirts with swastikas on them. He mocked and attacked the late Virgil Abloh.
Realistically, the way towards showing that he’s truly atoning and earnestly wants to redeem himself, includes not being in the public eye for a *long time*. Being with his family and friends, focusing on his mental health and stability, making amends with people in his life who he’s hurt, and *not* doing fucking merch drops and tours in the middle of it all. Maybe in a decade or so, when his apologies are slightly more believable, when his recent track record doesn’t look so unbelievably awful, and when we can trust that he isn’t just lying about being sorry to sell more shirts and promote his next album, *maybe* he can find forgiveness. I’m not holding my breath for that happening though.

Every time someone says “he apologized to a Rabbi” I think of the South Park episode With Apologies to Jesse Jackson. What does apologizing to one guy do for the rest of the Jewish community? And especially what does that do for the Black community, who he has also been extremely disrespectful to, lest we forget

I’m somewhat sympathetic because I’m bipolar myself and it’s obvious from footage of Kanye that period that he wasn’t well. I actually know another bipolar person who did the nazi thing, posting swastikas on social media and nobody in the village will let him live it down even though he’s a really nice guy when well. During my mania I was obsessed with crows and posted lots of crow shit and stood underneath trees staring at crows. Bipolar people always blow up their lives when manic, Kanye just had a big platform unfortunately, the reason they put you in the mental hospital is partly to protect your public image and reputation. Kanye, like Brittney shouldn’t have been out.
