Duffy has changed her name ahead of her comeback. The BRIT Award-winning singer has maintained a low profile following the release of her second album, Endlessly, in 2010.
The Welsh singer had been at the top of her game after she burst onto the scene at the end of the 2000s with her debut album Rockferry. But after three years, she disappeared from public life – seemingly without a trace. She later spoke out about being subjected to a harrowing kidnapping for weeks and being raped by an unknown man. She said she was lucky to escape, and has not been back in the spotlight since she shared her ordeal publicly in 2020.
Last month, it emerged that the Warwick Avenue star was preparing to make a comeback. The singer signed a deal with Disney+ to share her side of her story following her supersonic rise to fame. The project will give fans “new, unprecedented access” to the star, as well as interviews with her friends, family and music peers.

But it will also detail the pain she has endured over the years, following her withdrawal from public life and an “unfathomable experience”. The “unfathomable experience” will document the story of how the singer was drugged and held captive at her home for a month, after being targeted in a restaurant back in 2010.
Duffy was put on a plane and taken to an unknown country, and raped in a hotel. In February 2020, Duffy waived her right to anonymity and, in a statement, she told fans she feared she would be “disposed of” before she managed to escape. At the time of publishing her 3,649-word statement, she told fans she was “OK and safe now”, but didn’t want to show the “sadness in her eyes”.
And now, ahead of her comeback, it’s been claimed that Duffy, born Aimée Anne Duffy, has completely overhauled her life. Two years after she stepped away from the limelight, it emerged that she had changed her name to Duffy Jones.

The decision will no doubt spark more rumours that she is the daughter of singing star Tom Jones. She previously refuted these claims and stated her dad, John, was a pub landlord from Nefyn in North Wales. “Of course, Jones is a very Welsh surname, but to use it after the rumours about Tom is most bizarre. They always got on so well too,” a source told the Daily Mail.
Duffy’s name change has been documented in official documents filed with Companies House, initially on June 14 2013, with a request to change the Director’s details from Ms Aimee Duffy to Ms Duffy Jones.
Ahead of her comeback, Duffy has signed with TaP Management, the firm who are responsible for the likes of Dua Lipa, Dermot Kennedy, Leigh-Anne, Loreen and Mabel. The Mail claims that there had been “many attempts” at a comeback for Duffy, with meetings taking place in 2018 and 2019, but nothing materialised.
“Having Disney’s money involved must surely have made the difference,” a source told the outlet. They added: “The Disney deal would have been eye-wateringly huge. If anything is going to tempt her out of retirement and back into public life, it is this; it would have been extremely hard to turn down.”
A synopsis of the forthcoming Disney documentary reads: “Documenting her life in this way for the first time, the documentary will be a retrospective film traversing Duffy’s life, from her upbringing in Wales, through to her meteoric rise to fame and her withdrawal from public life following her unfathomable experience.
“The original documentary film will be driven by new, unprecedented access to Duffy, along with a rich and nostalgic archive, and interviews with family, friends, and close peers in the music industry.” A release date is yet to be confirmed.
