EXCLUSIVE: Tyler Rake looks ready for his next mission. Sources tell Deadline that Chris Hemsworth has closed a deal to reprise his role in , the new installment in the hit Netflix and AGBO action-film franchise. Insiders add that Sam Hargrave is back to direct, with Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani also back on board.
The film is set to start production this summer. David Weil is writing the script.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but one can expect another high-octane thrill ride as Rake (Hemsworth) and his team are sent on another dangerous extraction mission.
Extraction and Extraction 2 both appeared on Netflix’s Most Popular English Films list. Upon its debut in 2020, Extraction broke viewership records for Netflix and became an instant fan favorite. It earned two Critics Choice nominations, Best Action Movie and Best Actor in an Action Movie for Hemsworth.

Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Ari Costa will produce through AGBO; Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson will produce for Wild State along with Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin.
The series is based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando Leon Gonzalez. Steven V. Scavelli is exec producing.
The first film came out in spring 2020 when everyone was stuck at home during Covid. The project was such a big hit that the Russos and Hargrave had to bring its main character back from the dead (Hemsworth’s Rake seemed to have died at the end of the first film) for the second installment, which surpassed the streaming numbers of the first pic.
Hargrave has been hinting that the next installment was in the works but as always it depended on its A-list stars’ busy schedules. After spending the top of the year promoting his Amazon MGM Studios thriller Crime 101, Hemsworth was weighing his options for this summer and got excited after seeing the latest Extraction 3 script.
With Hemsworth on board, the studio aimed for a summer shoot to accommodate his other production, Kockroach, which will start shooting this month.
Hemsworth and Ben Grayson’s Wild State is a multiplatform production company focused on scripted, unscripted and branded storytelling across film, TV and digital. In addition to the Extraction franchise, its projects include Limitless from Disney+/National Geographic, Crime 101 with Amazon and the upcoming Corsair Code with Apple.
Netflix and AGBO recently announced two additional projects: a series starring Omar Sy and a South Korean feature (Tygo) starring Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk and Lalisa “LISA” Manobal. The film marks AGBO’s seventh film with Netflix; its 2022 pic The Gray Man is currently the streamer’s No. 9 most popular film of all time with 139.3 million views.
Hemsworth is repped by CAA, Elba by WME and The Artists Partnership, Farahani is repped by CAA and Agence Adequat and Hargrave by WME.
