May this sort of thing find me, cause it’s a struggle out here.
Relatable. 🥲
Haha, my, my. How real that cuts.
amazing to hear from a star who’s not a nepo baby or born rich. it’s so rare these days. rooting for him!
I just checked his wiki and he did an episode of Law & Order and a dozen or so theatre roles over the last 15 years. I’m glad he booked The Pitt because he must’ve been STRESSED about those student loans. (He got an MFA from Yale)
Going through this right now.
The emotional release of getting out from under student loan debt is flat-out *godlike*.
I’ve seen it happen with multiple friends and a family member as well, and the almost incomprehensible relief can *actually* be *confusing* for awhile, because it doesn’t become apparent until it’s gone, really gone, and you KNOW FOR A FACT it’s actually gone, just how invasive and pervasive that dread was! How *infused* into your very being it had become.
And the crazy thing is that people sometimes don’t know how to react to it being gone! It’s why the emotion of it lingers for so long because your body, your nervous system, it is just by default used to that stress pinching it closed, like it’s second nature. It rears its filthy head in some strange ways for awhile. It does take YEARS to come to terms with having made it out from under that debt.
It’s fucking inhumane and insanity-making, how **this is just what we do to our children in this country**. That is when we’re not treating them as less-than-human if not outright abusing them on the regular. No, we as a culture/society have spent MULTIPLE decades now, telling our children over multiple generations, that their best path to a good life was through higher education… and then we did *this* to them, en masse.
And *then* we took away the reality that we promised them on top of that. Going to college doesn’t mean shit anymore. It doesn’t guarantee anything. The only thing it seems to actually guarantee – is that crushing, debilitating debt.
And now more young folks legit believe the best pathway to economic stability is “influencing” and “social media” and working freelance (or just for plain ol free) “making content” for some larger corporation that owns the platform (and the internet the platform sits on) with no protections, no union, no health insurance, no regulations, nothing at all.
And it makes sense why they’d think that because this is a reality in which a guy who GRADUATED FROM YALE had to become the 2nd or 3rd lead on a TV phenomena before he could pay off his debts, and it fucked him up THIS bad anyway.
it’s baffling that student loans are this much in america
He seems like a good egg and I’m so happy for him. I’ve been overpaying my loans and I should be done at the end of the year. I’m certain I’ll also cry.
Right before he went off to do the first season of The Pitt, Patrick came as an additional PA to work with us in the costume department during the third season of And Just Like That. He was a sincerely kind and friendly guy who effortlessly brought up the mood during his short stay with us. It was then I learned that he was an actor just trying to get by and what not. He was grateful to have work and even though working in costumes wasn’t his end goal, he still gave a shit about the job.
If I can recall correctly- he ended up going off to an audition and he never returned as an additional, which isn’t uncommon in this world. Didn’t think much of it, so I went on with life. It wasn’t until much later did I realize that the audition he went after was for The Pitt, and he obviously got the role lol.
Happy to see him doing well, he deserves it!
