Sarah Ferguson has not been a revered British icon for some time but after the Epstein Files created shockwaves around the world, her stock has never been this low. Pre-Epstein Files, Fergie’s lowest ebb was probably the infamous 2010 ‘Cash-for-Access Scandal’ when she was filmed accepting £15,000 to facilitate access to ‘Prince’ Andrew, later admitting she was in a financial crisis.
But in January, when the US Department of Justice released millions of documents relating to dead financier and paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Fergie was dragged down to a whole new level of misery. Although no emails indicated any wrongdoing on her part, they have in a way done her a lot more harm – they have unmasked her relentless greed, her lack of moral compass and her shameless attraction to wealth.
For instance, in July 2009 she tapped up Epstein to pay for her business class flights to jet out to the States to see him just days after he was released from prison for procuring a 14-year-old child for prostitution.
She had no moral qualms about sitting down to have a veggie lasagne lunch with a newly freed child sex abuser just because he paid for her flights, and for Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s flights too, to the US.
The Files also revealed gushing Fergie hailed Epstein as “a legend,” telling him in one message: “I am at your service. Just marry me.”
While in May 2010, as Yozzer Hughes from ‘Boys from the Blackstuff’ would say “gizza job,” she begged convicted pervert Epstein to hire her as his “House Assistant,” writing: “I am the most capable and desperately need the money,” and “Please Jeffrey think about it.”
Luckily for her he never took her on the payroll – it wouldn’t have looked too great on her CV.
But despite all this humiliation, embarrassment and moneygrubbing, the reckless spendthrift is reportedly feeling “incredibly betrayed” by the rest of the Royal Family.
A source has claimed she is struggling in the fallout to her and ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s mentions in the Epstein Files documents.
The insider adds that “what people don’t see is just how low she’s sunk,” and “Fergie’s very bitter, she’s angry and feels wronged by everyone in the family”.
Oh well, I’m sure King Charles, Camilla, William and Catherine will get over it.
The source explains that when Fergie and Andrew were booted out of their 30-room Royal Lodge mansion, in Windsor, she was not provided with an alternative royal residence.
Maybe she forgot all that divorce paperwork she signed in May 1996.
These stories leaking out about her feeling hard done by, only illustrate why the Royal Family can’t trust her. Surely by now she should realise that keeping quiet and not moaning to friends about her hard luck is what the royals will want to see.
I would hazard another guess for the lack of a royal residence: that she was stripped of her Duchess of York title last October and is basically no longer a royal.
If Andrew were not the younger brother of the King, forcing Charles to accept responsibility for him, I doubt he would have his Marsh Farm residence at Sandringham right now either.
Fergie’s whole life has been repeatedly torpedoed by her inability to ‘read the room’.
Perhaps instead of feeling betrayed she should feel dismayed – at her own choice of friends and her serial, shameless antics.
