“Not to Be Shown to the Defence” (Full Scene) | In the Name of the Father
The walls of a corrupt system finally crumble when lawyer Gareth Peirce (Emma Thompson) discovers the smoking gun: a police file explicitly marked “Not to be shown to the Defence.” As the new evidence is presented, the case against Gerry Conlon (Daniel Day-Lewis) is dismissed, ending 15 years of wrongful imprisonment. It is one of the most powerful and triumphant moments in cinematic history.

Movie name is "There Will Be Court"
Didn't expect to see Nanny McPhee in a court case. Neat.
This is probably the first movie I saw as a teen that moved me. And understood real life drama.
48 year and 800 before that we the irish suffered worse what anyone did suffered. And we dont cry, we love brittish people more than anyone😊
The truth was, they were terrorists, (they murdered, not shown in the film) but were released on an issue of judicial procedure (not accurately shown in this mosty fictional movie).
The power of movies…
And people react when the Irish call foul. They and us have every reason to mistrust the elite classes and we should have simply done more, a lot more.
And Britain goes unchanged to this day, they just arrest you for mean words now if you’re white lol
“People in power are rarely punished.”
In a saner world the prosecution would've been hanged.
If you know anything about the British legal establishment, you'll know that nothing has changed. The entire system is built this way deliberately.
"I demand a recess".
Demand.
Like, an order.
That's the democracy and justice in western country and yet they criticize us about the human wrights ang justice ….
This was a fantastic film!
Note: a very USA movie ….. No UK Judge has ever used a gavel …
Amazing movie and actors!
(the Judge): I'm trying to read, gimme a minute…
(the Expensive Actors): MY LOOORD! I'M AN INNOCENT MAAAN! JUSTICE! WHY ARE WE NOT PROSECUTING THE VILLAINS!?!
(the Judge, again): Srsly I'm on your side, just let me read please…
(the Expensive Actors): MYYY LOOOOOOORDDD!!!!
Let me help you out.
Pew pew bang bang.
And lots of num num gimme gimmes.
Has anyone studied the transcript of the appeal and confirmed that barrister/QC actually showed that note in court? Clearly it shows a miscarriage of justice if it was proved the note was in the file. If she took it from the file without permission, it could never be accepted as evidence, cos the chain of custody has been broken and it could have been tampered with or a fake created. This is theatre by the film maker
crowley from supernatural oh my gosh
I no doubt the judge and the lawyer were told by the crown to drop it.
& we wonder why our countries are the way they are.
I was in the court that day and when the verdict was written out i gave a copper a good beating
British, American, or any other country… the entire system is broken and corrupt. "It's the best we can do," they say. Well, your best is a complete pile of shit, and exactly what I've come to expect from "civilized" people.
I was doing a placement in Manchester Strangeways prison.
I was an observer in the Governor’s meeting with Paul Hill. (Training to be a Probation Officer)
Paul was serving many times Life.
Within a short period of time, I was delving into the streets of Salford and Manchester
Meanwhile Paul was out and married a Kennedy
That’s a turn around if ever I saw one
they are still doing this with the rape gangs covering up the truth
The real terrorists in the world are the ones we pay to serve us
No accountability for the nazi elite we employ
It’s all rigged .
Thank goodness the judge wasn't corrupt in this case.
Corin Redgrave stands out in a film endowed with towering talent. DD-L and Emma Thompson are always a glory, but the under-rated Redgrave as the corrupt Dixon must be credited with illuminating perfectly the whole idea of a smug, self-righteous and supremely venal police officer. He didn't miss a beat. It was a great, great performance.
@colliers
Yes and all those murdered by the ira were really the guilty party, if you don't like us stay away
Daniel Day Lewis and Emma Thompson is an amazing combination of actors.
Trusting the justice system is like putting a wallet full of money on your dresser, leaving a hooker in your room and expecting the monies to be there when you come back. A stupid act by stupid actors!
