Hathaway looks stunning but it reads so much more Gaga or even 90s Madonna than Swift, who doesnât subvert and make meaning with Roman Catholic imagery the same way as someone with Italian heritage might. Which makes the recent articles linking this film to Swift a bit odd.
I guess the director namedropped Swift for the clicks. Or maybe he thought it was more subversive to try to craft a âpsychosexualâ (per promo materials) story using as a reference a star who doesnât have an overtly subversive image.
