  1. > After the blockbuster trial that went from the U.S. Department of Justice to 34 states, a jury has decided that Live Nation Entertainment and its subsidiary Ticketmaster illegally held monopoly power in the ticketing market.

    > Throughout the trial, the states argued that Live Nation and Ticketmaster held a monopoly over the live music industry and were responsible for driving up prices, with the states’ attorney Jeffrey Kessler branding the company a ā€œmonopolistic bully,ā€ per the Associated Press. He claimed that they had used tactics that ā€œkept digging the moat around the monopoly castle in order to protect their market position.ā€

This is an enormous deal. Ā It is also only the first step… next comes a lengthy appeals process.

What will happen if LN is broken up is completely unknown. Ā It could be nothing! Ā It’s quite possible LN is not responsible for the rise in ticket prices! Ā  It’s also possible that it will utterly reshape the live industry. Ā LNs dominance is based on an ability to give bigger deals to artists then its competitors… they can do this because of the TM monopoly. Ā Without that… we’ll see what happens

wait woah, this could actually lead to their split…

but sadly, i don’t see face value prices going down lol once something goes up, it usually stays up :((

Being an old and living through ticket prices going up and up and up, I will believe it when I see it, if this affects ticket prices.

I’d love to see resell tickets being sold at close to face value or below as well.

Too many scalpers are being tickets and marking them up great — and technology has meant they can do that from a world away.

In New York – it’s an insane problem. Seeing it now with World Cup tickets too.

A State Senator in NYC is putting forth a bill to make ticket prices
more affordable, which will hopefully pass:

I dont understand why people support live music via LN or TM. You have to pay for electricity, food, housing. You DO NOT HAVE to pay $300 to go see a human make tonal noises from their mouth (usually dubbed in). Why are people spending over $400 to see Dave Matthews or over $800 to see taylor swift?!?!?

When the collective stop allowing these greedy mf ers from fleecing them, it will start things right again.

I dont understand this. Probably never will

Edit- I live near a major city with a high cost of living. Shit is expensive for me for everything
