There was a time when Disney struck a deal with Netflix to develop shows starring iconic street-level characters, such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand. The Defenders had their own successful version of a shared universe, but even then, they were still separate from the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. Things only got worse when the deal to create these series came to an end, and fans thought they had seen the last of these four iconic heroes. Fortunately, everything has changed for the better in recent years.
The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen has now shared the screen with the likes of Spider-Man and She-Hulk. Furthermore, Wilson Fisk stole the show on the Hawkeye Disney+ series. The cherry on top? Both Matt Murdock and the Kingpin of Crime have been at the center of the spotlight, courtesy of Daredevil: Born Again. Fans can’t help but feel this is only the beginning of a wider exploration of the street-level corner of the MCU. After all, it has been officially confirmed that the Defenders are coming back together, so there are chances for each of them to steal the spotlight. Fortunately, a new report indicates that it will be the case.
Marvel is reportedly developing more shows starring The Defenders
According to insider MyTimeToShineHello, Marvel is developing more shows starring The Defenders. We know that all four heroes are set to come together during Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 thanks to set photos, but it seems their solo stories will be expanded upon in solo projects. So, the question then becomes: Which new series are we getting?
The Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, teased that we’d get a Jessica Jones series “sooner than we think”. This led to speculation that the private investigator’s upcoming project could film back-to-back with Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, using the same sets in order for Disney to save costs.

A Heroes For Hire series is also rumored to be in the works at Marvel, which would undoubtedly star Luke Cage and Danny Rand, who founded the supergroup in the comic book world. However, they haven’t been the only two characters to have been part of the team. Fan-favorites such as Shang-Chi, Ghost Rider, the Punisher, Colleen Wing, and Elektra have also been part of the roster, so Marvel might be looking to add some of them into the mix as well.
With Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 currently filming and The Punisher: One Last Kill just a few weeks away from being released on Disney+, it’s clear that Marvel intends to double down on its street-level stories and heroes. Better yet, there might be a bigger plan in store. Multiple reports have indicated that a big street-level crossover movie is being planned, with heroes such as Spider-Man, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, the Punisher, and more set to make an appearance and fight against the Kingpin of Crime.
Now that the Multiverse Saga is coming to an end, the MCU could focus on developing its supernatural heroes (with the long-rumored Midnight Sons movie finally coming to fruition), the X-Men, and street-level heroes. While nothing is set in stone yet, it won’t be long until the studio unveils more about its future plans and what the next phase of projects will look like. Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 6 can’t come quickly enough for Jessica Jones to finally make her MCU debut.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
